5 1/2 fun-filled hours

Today, my off-Friday, I:

1. Woke up early, took a shower, put on makeup and a cute shirt because...

2. I went to the Driver's License office to have my name changed. That was ever so pleasant. Got there at 9, left at 11:15. There were 4 people there who required the use of a translator, several people who had questionable "smells", one person who had entirely too much of a rather cheap perfume, 2 people who talked to me even though I had a "do not disturb me" look, one nice driver's license person, one not-so-nice driver's license person, and one who had no eyebrows at all and they were drawn in with a pencil that was no where close to their hair color.

3. Arrive at Social Security office at 11:40. Took a Number. I was E-190. They called E-131 wehn I walked through the door. Lots of smelly people (not good smells), too many people with coughs (not covering their mouths), many crying babies (give them a pacifier or a bottle, please??). They had about 30 less chairs than needed. I went outside to get a sip of my diet coke (because there was no drinking in the office) and then an ambulance and fire truck pulled up. Blocked my car completely in. Good thing it happened then, because they were only on E-171.

4. Made it home at 2.

Men don't know how damn lucky they have it to not have to change their name when they get married.

The WORST part of first getting married...

Gah!

Be ready for everyone to mispronounce and misspell your name!!!

I hate that.

Been married and divorced twice and thus have had to do the name change thing 4 times. It never gets to be any funner, unless you accidentially get a call on your cell phone at the Social Security office and the security guard pulls his gun on you.

Ummmm...I have been married 13.5 years...my license still has my maiden name on it but the signature is my married name. I can NEVER remember to take the right paper work with me...

The one thing I really want to know when I go to the DPS or other public offices is where are all the "normal" people? Is there some secret to not having to visit these places if you bathe and aren't missing any teeth or eyebrows?
