Let's Play A Game, Shall We?

Let's play a game of hypotheticals (I know there's a better word for it, but that's all I can think of)....

So, hypothetically, there's this woman you know.

She's (hypothetically) 33 years old.

She's (hypothetically) married, and she had her hypothetical husband have discussed, perhaps, trying to get pregnant in 2 months or so.

So, hypothetically, in 2 months, she is going to go off her hypothetical birth control.

Are there any books you would suggest to her about what she could (hypothetically) do BEFORE trying to get pregnant to ensure she is in the best possible health?

Hypothetically, this person is trying to lose weight (7 pounds, thank you very much), and doesn't know when/if she should go ahead and go to her OB/GYN for a prescription for pre-natal vitamins. Should she wait? Or go ahead? Should she go ahead and go get a physical from her regular doctor?

Is there a book she should get?

This hypothetical person is very excited that she and her hypothetical husband have had this hypothetical discussion and doesn't quite know what to do next.

Because, hypothetically, February seems like a good time and holy crap, it isn't that far away!!!!

Hypothetically, she thanks you.

Well. I would definitely suggest that 'this woman' go and get her prenatal vitamins now as well as a physical and a dentist visit. If she wants to get preggo in 2 months than she should go off of her birth control now (if hormonal) and just use a barrier method until she is ready to try. She should not worry about losing weight right now, too close to conception time. A good walking routine or some other activity is a great idea as is stocking up on the fruits and veggies;)
I wish 'this woman' lot's of luck and a healthy pregnancy!

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't get an RX for the vitamins. Buy the OTC ones or just take Theragran M. After 2 pregnancies and having girlfriends that are nurses and pharmacy techs, I have the inside track. I will send you my copy of What To Expect When You're Expecting. Go off the birth control now and opt for other methods in the short term. If you've been one BC for a while, it can take time for your system to adjust.
You'll lose wieght when you get pregnant anyways from all the puking and being disgusted by the food you were craving not 10 mintues ago. :o) No kidding. Your body will also be burning extra calories anyways. Growing a person takes a lot out of you.
There is so much more!!! We need to pow wow!!!

Get the vitamins now, because if this hypothetical woman is like me she may not be able to swallow them her entire pregnancy....but she shouldn't worry too much about that because look how good my babies turned out!

And tell her not to get stressed out by reading the books....just do the best she can....and unless she would enjoy turning herself into a self-loathing basket case DO NOT READ "What to expect when you're expecting"

Hypothetically speaking, this woman should take folic acid (and it can be over the counter)...and not stress...Stress will kill the hypothetical mood and make it difficult.

Hypothetically, I wish her luck...I better see a baby in Texas.

I wouldn't read the books..they always made me feel inferior.

Tell your "friend" to start taking vitamins now...no need for a RX. "She" can get them OTC from Wal-mart. I used them with both of my pregos and still to this day. They are great multi-vitamins, plus extra stuff for child bearing!! Dr's visits would be great, if you can get them in before Feb. OB/GYNs are usually booked, unless you are prego! Tell your "friend" good luck.

I am very happy for this hypothetical friend I've never met and I will pray that all goes well with the hypothetical business of baby having.

Please, please ask your friend to not leave her pregnancy test stick in a public restroom!

Oh and P.S. YAY!

I got some unsolicited advice from a baby doctor one time that has stuck on my head--- Folic Acid for at least 3 months before conception. Like everybody else is saying, get those vitamins now!!!

Hypothetically I could not s.... wait, not hypothetically... my kid is 7 months old....

I could not swallow prenatals from about the minute the stick turned pink, however, Flintstones chewables work just fine too.

as for actual pregnancy, I liked this book

“The Pregnancy Countdown Book” by Susan Magee

up until about the 39th week it was really good. after that it was all "what, no baby yet, welcome to your induction/csec" which torked me off. but 39 out of 42 weeks ain't bad I guess. :)

Oh, and I bought my preg tests online - 20 for 16 dollars. Totally worth it.

don't know you or the hypothetical chick. I read everything, only one that helped reverse the crap all those books did to me was "the baby whisperer". I also highly recommend the folic acid thing, and really read everything you can about nursing if it is something you want to do. No, I am not a le leche league kinda chick,it just helped. I have three perfect girls, I had them all in three years, no twins! I finally stopped "trying" and got the hubby fixed!!!! LOL! Good Luck!-
