I can't help but feel selfish, materialistic and bratty

When I got married the first time (1999), I got an engagement ring with a plain gold band. I really didn't want much. The ring was not of much quality wise, but at the time, I was more than happy with it.

Problem - it wasn't me. I am not a solitaire person. I prefer something a little different.

Mark and I have been discussing, off and on, for a few weeks now, engagement rings. He doesn't feel that an engagement ring is a big deal and would be happy if I just had a band. But he understands that I don't feel the same.

I am a girly girl when it comes to a few things. I like my getting my (fake) nails done. I like feeling pretty and special and all that other stuff.

I want an engagement ring.

It doesn't have to be huge. It doesn't have to be a $12,000 rock. I want something that is me. Something that is US.

We went to the Zales Outlet. I found 3 rings that I liked well enough. Would be happy with any of them. One was better than the others, but I didn't like the band that we picked to go with it. (Picky me)

We got back to my place and I started looking at Ebay. I found a set that I fell in love with. Sapphire and Diamonds. And if I get it, I want a sapphire for the center stone. Something different. Something Me.

Why do I feel selfish, materialistic and bratty?

Because we are closing on a house. Money will be tight for a few months. Probably more tight than what we really realize.

And I want a ring.

It's your ring and you should have it exactly the way you want it. It represents you and your relationship...Be picky, you will never get another one like it.

And thank you from the bottom of my heart for your wonderful comments today. You've made my day...just by knowing that I have made you happy...

NO - you are not being selfish. This ring symbolizes your union with Mark. If you don't get something you truly are in love with - every time you look at it, it will be a disappointment.

I had an awesome wedding ring - and then lost it last summer. It was insured, so I able to get a new one...it looks like the first one, but not quite. I'm a little sad every time I look at it. I should have just gotten something completely New and Different....then maybe I'd be happy about it.
