Time Flies When You're Having...

It's hard to believe, nearly one year ago I was in the Middle East for the entire friggin month of February.

It was a good trip. Great learning experience. Learned a lot about our world. Learned a lot about our troops and learned more about myself.

First: being gone from the creature comforts of home for 3 1/2 weeks is a long time. Especially if you really don't know anyone.

Second: Don't fall asleep in a Middle Eastern airport on your stomach so the bottom of your shoes show. They don't like it and will wake you up.

Third: Explosions don't sound like explosions do on tv or in the movies. Not at all.

Fourth: I really missed my cat and dog. And my bed. And wearing something other than heavy work boots. And wearing something other than jeans.

Fifth: when flying OUT of the Middle East - The locals don't have a problem with removing their shoes while in the airplane. And you really can't get away from stinky feet smell. Massive amounts of sleeping pills wont' even let you escape that.

Sixth: Valentine's Day in Iraq really sucks. Even if you don't have a boyfriend and it would have sucked any way at home in the States.

Seventh: The food over there (at the base dining facilities) was quite good. Baskin Robbins twice a day is a great thing (just not good for being able to fit into your jeans that you have to wear EVERY day). Although their mint chocolate chip isn't quite as good as Blue Bell.

Eighth: Well, that may be about it. It just hit me that this time last year I was getting ready for my trip.

All in all, it really was a good time.

This year, I have a great guy to spend Valentine's with. He is looking for a house for us. I have so many good things in my life.

Are you in the military? That sounds like an amazing trip. I could never leave home for that long...I'm too chicken.

Thank you for sharing that. I'd love to see more pictures.
